An Apple Car, also known as Project Titan, is coming sooner or later, and we may have just gotten a first look at some of its audio system technology in this recent patent filing. One interesting feature is headrest speakers, which can be used to personalize audio specifically for the occupant, resulting in a sound channel that seemingly originates behind that person for ambience and / or immersion.

We see in Fig. 14 a sketch for distributing reverb for a speaker mounted in a headrest of a seat within an enclosure, which may be implemented in an omnidirectional matter to direct sound to one or more desired locations or even other speakers. In one or more use cases, it may be desirable to provide audio content to one or more occupants within the enclosed environment. The audio content may include general audio content intended for all of the occupants and/or personalized audio content for one or a subset of the occupants. In personalized mode, a user could also receive notifications from their iPhone into the headrest audio,” said Patently Apple.
