Archer Aviation delivered the first Archer Midnight eVTOL aircraft to the US Air Force as part of its AFWERX Agility Prime contract valued at up to $142 million. Power comes from 12 electric motors connected to six independent battery packs that enable Midnight to achieve a top speed of 150 mph.
In the air, the Midnight transitions from thrust-borne to wing-borne flight by tilting its propellers, which then return to the standard position as soon as the aircraft is about to land. On a full charge, the eVTOL has a flying range of around 100-miles, which may not sound very impressive, but more than enough for emergency rescue missions in remote areas.
