Artificial Intelligence 19th Century Portraits
Artificial intelligence can already turn selfies into classic Renaissance paintings, but what about the other way around? Mystery Scoop decided to find out by bringing 19th century portraits to life that have all been given AI makeovers, including a quick restoration, colorization as well as some facial motion.

Lorenzo Foli and Olga Shirnina, the duo behind Mystery Scoop, specialize in photo restoration including colorization, so this project was actually a labor of love rather than something created just to generate views on social media. They mainly focused on daguerreotypes and tintype photos, as they were the ones that had the most detail compared to other photography techniques at the time. For those interested in classic photographs, you can view the world’s first selfie snapped by Robert Cornelius in 1839 at the Library of Congress in Washington DC.
