It’s not everyday that you come across an avalanche, much less have a drone ready to go to capture the event. Photographer MacTac just so happened to be mountain surfing in British Columbia on Vancouver Island hoping to capture some nice cinematic footage when he spotted snow rapidly falling down a mountainside.
All of the footage you see was captured with a Camera Butter 8 Cinema ONE 7-inch frame mounted to a custom front and a GoPro Bones Hero 10 camera. For those who have never flown an FPV drone, it essentially uses an onboard camera that relays live video to goggles, smartphones or tablet screens. To capture underwater footage, you’ll need QYSEA’s Fifish V EVO.

I scrambled to get a battery on my drone, fumbled with my GoPro, and booked it out towards the mountain as fast as I possibly could. I got there just in time to see an absolutely scary amount of snow hitting the bottom of the mountain. What looks like water is actually a huge amount of snow, with some chucks as big as my truck,” said MacTac.
