Axiom Space purchased services for the mission from NASA, like crew supplies, cargo delivery to space, storage, and other in-orbit resources for daily use. NASA is also benefiting from this mission, as they are purchasing the capability to return scientific samples that must be kept cold in transit back to Earth. The Ax-1 mission is an critical step to stimulate demand for commercial human spaceflight services so NASA can be just one of many customers in low-Earth orbit.
