The Baidu Apollo RT6 is an all-electric, fully autonomous robotaxi with a detachable steering wheel. Priced at just $37,000 USD, it’s designed for use in complex urban environments and set to go into operation in China next year on Apollo Go, Baidu’s autonomous ride-hailing service. Its steering wheel-free design means operators can design bespoke interiors that include extra seating, vending machines, desktops, game consoles, etc.
Apollo RT5 also incorporates Baidu’s most advanced L4 autonomous driving system yet, powered by automotive-grade dual computing units boasting computing power of up to 1200 TOPS (Tera Operations per Second). It comes equipped with 38 sensors, including 8 LiDARs and 12 cameras, to provide highly accurate, long-range detection on all sides. Argo AI and Volkswagen’s self-driving ID.Buzz robotaxi should be coming sooner than later as well.
