It won’t be able to capture signals traveling through nerve cells, but this innovative Black Box Camera by photographer Jasper van Loenen is capable of creating photos by generating AI text prompts. Put simply, you’ll find a and Fujifilm Instax Mini Link printer and Raspberry Pi inside the black box, which uses an image recognition algorithm to come up with a text prompt before sending it to OpenAI’s DALL-E 2 via WiFi.
For example, if one decides to use the twin-reflex camera to capture a plant, the caption would read ‘a plant in a room’. Things do not always turn out right though, as the camera has a mind of its own when it comes to some of the text prompts. The good news is that Loenen is already working on a second version that gives more control to the user, with some abstract settings such as ‘mesmerizing’ and ‘popular’.
