It’s official, Blue Origin has completed yet another successful launch by blasting its first six-person crew into suborbital space on Saturday (Dec. 11). This New Shepard NS-19 mission also set six other records, including sending the tallest person to fly into space and the first parent-child pair to lift off together. The crew consisted of TV personality / football star Michael Strahan and Laura Shepard Churchley, the oldest daughter of Alan Shepard, the first American astronaut to fly into space. As for the identities of the other four astronauts, they were all paying customers, and included Lane Bess, principal and founder of Bess Ventures and Advisory, a family fund investing in technology companies. After the 10-minute flight, the crew capsule, called “RSS FIrst Step,” touched down safely using three large parachutes and and downward facing thrusters.
