Blue Origin’s New Glenn NG-1 mission has successfully launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The launch was postponed twice – January 10 and 12 – due to rough offshore weather that could affect a rocket landing on the company’s recovery ship in the Atlantic.
Standing 320-feet-tall, New Glenn is a heavy-lift launch vehicle powered by seven BE-4 engines, with the second stage relying on two BE-3U engines, all designed and built in-house by Blue Origin. This maiden flight carried a prototype Blue Ring spacecraft and serves as the first of several demonstration launches required to be certified for use by the National Security Space Launch program.

This is our first flight and we’ve prepared rigorously for it. But no amount of ground testing or mission simulations are a replacement for flying this rocket. It’s time to fly. No matter what happens, we’ll learn, refine, and apply that knowledge to our next launch,” said Jarrett Jones, SVP, New Glenn.
