Boaterhome Half Boat Van
Auto enthusiast John Ortlieb from Nevada doesn’t own just one, but two ‘Boaterhomes’, which is a bizarre half boat, half van hybrid. One of them was passed down from his father and then he purchased the second around ten years ago. His father’s version measures 36 feet-long and can travel up to 40mph on water or over 100mph on land. A total of 21 exist in the world, and John’s, built in the 1980s was based on a Ford Econoline Van. It can be used as a boat, home or just an everyday vehicle. John has maintained the original design over the years, but he has done some work to make the interior a bit larger and then decorated it with ocean life-inspired items, like mermaids, starfish and seashells. You’ll also find a kitchenette (stove, conventional oven, microwave and fridge), along with a fold-down compact dining table area. How did he acquire the second? Well, nearly 10-years-ago, one was put up for sale for $30,000, and after lots of haggling, he managed to get the price down to $11,000.
