The all-new BYD Seal EV is ready to take on the Tesla Model 3 in China’s red hot electric car market. It’s based on the company’s e-platform 3.0 and the second car in BYD’s Ocean series. The Seal’s design was inspired by the Ocean X concept car that debuted back in September 2021. Available in RWD and 4WD variants, the base model sports a 204 hp electric motor, while the mid-tier makes 313 hp and the dual motor 4WD producing 522 hp, enabling it to hit 62 mph in 3.8-seconds.
Step inside, and you’re greeted with an ocean-inspired design, complete with a blue / black / gray color scheme. Alacantra and leather trim can be found throughout, while the wave-shaped air vents finish off the look. Technology wise, there’s a Dynaudio sound system, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen in the center, and two wireless charging pads for your mobile devices. Available next month in China, priced from $34,500 USD. The BYD Seal EV may be ready to take on the streets, but it will require some heavy modifications to handle the Dakar Rally.
