Elon Musk announced tonight on X that the first human has received the Neuralink brain implant, officially called ‘Telepathy’. It’s powered by a battery that can be charged wirelessly and capable of recording as well as transmitting brain signals to an app that decodes how the person intends to move.
Neuralink uses a robot to surgically place a brain-computer interface (BCI) implant in a region of the brain that controls the intention to move, and hopes to eventually allow people to control a computer cursor or keyboard using just their thoughts. These signals are transmitted using ultra-fine threads on the implant and initial results show promising neuron spike detection, according to Elon Musk.
