SpaceX was prepping its latest Starship prototype vehicle, called Serial No. 4 or SN4, for a static fire test in Texas. When it started, the Raptor engine fired nominally for a couple of seconds at 1:47pm local time and then shut down, but approximately 1-minute later, an uncontrolled gaseous leak caused the spacecraft to explode. This Starship SN4 prototype was filled with liquid oxygen and methane for fuel. There was almost nothing left after the fire cleared, and even the test stand had substantial damage. Fortunately, the ground support equipment was mostly unharmed. The 165-foot-tall Starship SN4 rocket and its Super Heavy megabooster will hopefully one day transport up to 100 people at a time into space and beyond.
