Epic Games Unreal Engine 5 Superman Game Technology Demonstration
As of this week, Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 game engine is available for production-ready use, and one developer, who goes by Volod online, has already put it to good use. He used the assets from The Matrix Awakens tech demo that was released last year to create a Superman-inspired open world game demo. Why doesn’t the character look like the Man of Steel? Purely for legal reasons and he’s still looking for an interesting gameplay loop to tie into the flight mechanic.

What you may not realize is that the city layout you see was built from the ground up using The City Sample assets, and not just imported into this project. For those interested in building their own projects, Epic Games also release the Lyra Starter Game, which is essentially a sample gameplay project designed to be a starting point for building and shipping UE5 games. It’s a full hands-on learning resource that incorporates many key engine features, complete with a fully networked multiplayer environment. Download it here now.

The City Sample is a free sample project that reveals how the large open world from The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience was built. The project—which consists of a complete city with buildings, vehicles, and crowds of MetaHuman characters—demonstrates how UE5’s new systems and workflows made building this experience possible,” said Epic Games.
