Full-Scale Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar New York Auto Show Debut
Racing fans, get excited! The sleek Genesis GMR-001 hypercar was shown to the public for the first time at the 2025 New York International Auto Show. This is Genesis’ big leap into worldwide motorsport, aiming for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2026 and the IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2027, with the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans as their top target.

Designed with Genesis’ “Athletic Elegance” style, the GMR-001 is a Le Mans Daytona h (LMDh) prototype that mixes a smooth, stylish look with serious speed. You can see this in its carbon-fiber body, super-streamlined shape, and Genesis’ signature Two-Line lights that wrap around the front and back, making it easy to spot during nighttime endurance races.

Technical specifications are still under wraps, but it’s confirmed to have a hybrid powertrain with a twin-turbo V8 engine, derived from Hyundai Motorsport’s World Rally Championship (WRC) inline-four motor. The V8 was fired up successfully in February 2025 at Hyundai Motorsport’s HQ. LMDh rules cap output at around 680–698 horsepower, with 67 hp from the electric component, and enforce rear-wheel drive with a minimum weight of 2,270 lbs. What makes the chassis so special is the fact that it was built by ORECA Motorsport, a heavyweight in endurance racing.

The driver lineup is stacked with endurance racing royalty—three-time Le Mans winner André Lotterer and four-time Sebring 12 Hours champ Luis “Pipo” Derani are leading development and will race in 2026. Jamie Chadwick and Mathys Jaubert, part of the Genesis Magma Racing Trajectory Program, are already competing in the 2025 European Le Mans Series (ELMS) with an LMP2 entry.

Complementing the GMR-001 Hypercar, the Genesis Magma Racing team’s suits feature the brand’s signature Two-Line in combination with G-Matrix graphics. The suits’ design reinforces the connection between driver, machine and brand identity. Wearing these suits are the individuals tasked with bringing Genesis Magma Racing’s vision to life on track — the driver roster includes three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner André Lotterer and Luis “Pipo” Derani, a four-time victor at the 12 Hours of Sebring, said Genesis.
