Auto enthusiasts are very familiar with Ken Block’s annual Gymkhana extravaganza, but this year, Subaru of American partnered with rallycross star Travis Pastrana to make it a reality. All the stunts you’re about to see were filmed in Pastrana’s hometown of Annapolis, Maryland and stars an 862-horsepower one-off WRX STI built by Subaru exclusively for the film. You’ll see plenty of the usual power slides, tire destruction, and even bigger jumps.
Pastrana’s purpose-built STI started with a production Subaru shell before eing fully caged and lightened to just 2,623 pounds, which is over 800 pounds lighter than a stock STI, giving it an eye-watering power-to-weight ratio of 3.0 lb/hp. The crazy looking carbon fiber body panels were tested in a wind tunnel, while a DRS-style active rear wing allowed Pastrana to adjust the car’s mood in mid-air for the video’s groundbreaking jump stunts.

Making my first Gymkhana video has been an incredible experience! I’m so thrilled to finally have the chance to do it, especially in my hometown, so I could bring these ideas I’ve had for years to life. Plus, Subaru built me the perfect STI for it. It’s unbelievable how much power and grip this thing has, and it took all the punishment I could throw at it!,” said rallycross star Travis Pastrana.
