Hankook WheelBot Omnidirectional Sphere Wheel
The Mercedes-Benz F200 was ahead of its time, and the Hankook Wheelbot shows us the future of transportation. It combines the company’s omnidirectional sphere wheel system with a minivan-sized POD spaces to let you park almost anywhere, thanks to three-dimensional movement from roads to inside buildings through installed rails.

Hankook’s ultimate goal is for this concept to enable the efficient use of energy by flexibly configuring spaces as needed, called Space Shifting Mobility (SSM). This technology can also be applied to homes, medical institutions, and even work environments if the adoption right is high enough. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on when the WheelBot or POD spaces will be shown in full-sized prototype form.

Hankook WheelBot Omnidirectional Sphere Wheel

This year’s project was carried out in collaboration with robotics startup company, Calmantech Corp. This time, Hankook took a step further by bringing futuristic mobility ideas to life. The company successfully built the ‘WheelBot’, a modular robotic wheel system with three axles, which appears in the future smart city scenario. Furthermore, Hankook offers visitors to ‘2022 MADE IN HANKOOK’ an opportunity to drive the ‘WheelBot’ in person,” said the company.
