When Jaguar brought its brand new four-door Electric GT to the cold wastes of Arjeplog, Sweden, its goals went much beyond simply surviving subzero temperatures. The team wanted to observe how this automobile would react when its limitations were unexpectedly pushed, on all but slick surfaces.
Arjeplog is an isolated area of northern Sweden that is home to one of the automotive industry’s best winter testing grounds. You have frozen lakes that provide miles of extremely smooth ice and snow-covered handling loops. Jaguar has been using this location for decades, but the current initiative is the most significant validation effort in the company’s history. They aim to run over 150 prototypes for hundreds of thousands of miles in various temperatures, but these initial Arctic tests are all about the car’s chassis and how its electric engine performs in extreme cold.

The car is a variant of the Type 00 concept that they previously demonstrated, but with four proper doors to make it more usable. The final details are obscured by some sophisticated camouflage, but all being well, we should see the finished product later this summer, with customer deliveries planned in the spring of 2027. Even with the camouflage on, the car appears purposeful: a tall bonnet, a roofline of just under 55 inches, and a rear-wards posture that’s more traditional GT than the slab-sided luxury saloons we’re accustomed to.

In terms of power, the tri-motor all-wheel drive system produces more than 1,000 horsepower and over 959 lb-ft of torque. One of the motors is up front, delivering roughly 350 horsepower, which helps with fuel efficiency, while the back pair has to do the hard lifting, producing nearly 950 horsepower on its own. Jaguar claims this is the most powerful road automobile they’ve ever produced. They’ve installed a 120KWh battery pack across a skateboard platform, which keeps the center of gravity low and the floor nice and flat, all of which helps to get the driving position in a relatively normal spot for a sports car, given it’s got four doors.

Not only that, but dynamic air suspension and twin valve active dampers assist absorb bumps and keep the body under control. All-wheel steering improves agility by reducing the turning radius and making the automobile feel more nimble in tight situations. They’ve installed Pirelli-designed 23-inch winter tires that provide just enough grip to let the chassis shine without overwhelming the driver. Acceleration feels smooth and persistent, especially at low revs on slick ground, with exceptional performance throughout the speed range rather than attempting to shoot off like a rocket.

The starting price is over £120,000 (around $160,000), so anticipate this GT to be squarely in the luxury category. They hope to follow it up with an SUV variation, but for the time being, this four-door is spearheading Jaguar’s drive into the world of electric vehicles.
