Just about everyone who lives in a part of the world that experiences winter weather have either used chains or special tires, but how do they compare to $2,000 WRC rally tires? Tyre Reviews wanted to find out so they pit both against each other at Pirelli’s winter testing facility in Sweden fitted on a Subaru Impreza WRX rally car.
As you might have expected, the Sottozero WRC rally tires performed far better than the Ice Zero 2 road-spec tires, as the former set a 59.1-second lap compared to the latter’s 67.3-second lap. However, the ice circuit was where the Sottozero WRC rally tires really shined, as it clocked a 33.1-second lap, compared to the Ice Zero’s 51.0-second lap, thanks to the large studs.
