Jaguar Land Rover has deployed Boston Dynamics’ Spot robot dog at their EV build and test facility in Coventry for 24-hour surveillance duties. That’s right, it even has its own kennel of sorts at the plant, where it periodically lives and charges its 50V battery between shifts.
Unlike real dogs, Boston Dynamics’ Spot doesn’t get distracted by loud sounds, unusual sights or smells. It’s currently fully automated to follow a range of preset routes that allow it to conduct up to 24 patrols each day and night. Spot leverages AI to physically open doors, ascend stairs and navigate high‑traffic areas with diligence. The robot can also continuously take measurements, inspect valves and check machinery, thus eliminating the risk of human error in these tasks, while allowing engineers to better spend their time analyzing results for possible maintenance or repairs.
