LG Display unveils the Thin Actuator Sound Solution (TASS), an invisible speaker for automobiles that is set to be commercialized in Q1 2023. Speakers normally consist of a voice coil, cone, and magnet, while this solution is extremely thin, thanks to LG Display’s film-type exciter technology. It works by vibrating off display panels and various materials inside the car body to produce rich, 3D immersive sound experiences.
What does this invisible speaker look like? Essentially a passport-like device (150mm x 90mm) that measures just 2.5mm thick, or the equivalent of two coins stacked together, and weighs in at a svelte 40g. This makes it just 70% lighter and 90% thinner than a conventional car speaker, enabling you to install it just about anywhere, like the dashboard, headliner, pillar, headrests, etc. You’ll be able to see TASS in-person at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, which begins January 5.

We have transformed the conventionally heavy and bulky speaker into a high-quality ‘invisible’ sound solution by using our cutting-edge technology to elevate space, design, and eco-friendly factors and provide a next-level sound experience like none before.” said Yeo Chun-ho, Vice President and Head of the Business Development Division at LG Display.
