LG filed a design patent on February 21, 2019 for a rollable device and it was just published in the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) database, with a total of 18 sketches. The drawings appear to show a roll-up display that can be wrapped around a smartphone chassis and just a small bezel is visible on the top and bottom sections.
The bezels can be assumed to contain both the cameras and sensors, but they weren’t drawn out in the sketches. So, this could mean they are integrated directly under the display, or will be added in later sketches. Unlike glass, rollable displays have better durability, are lighter weight, thinner, and can be perfectly curved.

One major difference between glass and rollable display is that the display area of the former can be larger than the device itself. There’s no official word yet on if we’ll see a prototype anytime soon, but one thing’s for sure, LG is definitely working on a folding smartphone.
