Mario Kart World is the next installment in the franchise, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. Unlike previous games that stuck to traditional track-based racing, this one introduces a vast, interconnected open-world environment.
For the first time in the series, you can drive “virtually anywhere” in a seamless, interconnected world. Tracks are no longer isolated—you can roam off-course, explore the environment, and even drive between race locations. Think of it like a Mario Kart sandbox!

Dynamic weather and time will change how races feel. Rain might make tracks slippery, while night racing could shift visibility or strategy. A dedicated Mario Kart World Direct is scheduled for April 17, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. PT with more details about this new feature.

Alongside classic Grand Prix, there’s a “Knockout Tour” mode where you race across the open world to checkpoints, and stragglers get eliminated if they fall too far behind. Plus, a Free Roam mode lets you explore solo or with friends, no finish line required.

It’s a day-one title (June 5) for the Switch 2, bundled with some console editions for $499.99 (the standalone console is $449.99). Nintendo’s betting big on Mario Kart World to kick off their new hardware with a bang.
