NASA Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope SpaceX
NASA has officially awarded a NASA Launch Services (NLS) II contract to SpaceX. Elon Musk’s company will provide launch service for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope mission, which is actually the top-priority large space mission recommended by the 2010 Astronomy and Astrophysics Decadal Survey.



It will cost NASA $255 million to launch this telescope, which includes the service itself and other mission related costs. The telescope’s mission currently is set to launch in October 2026 aboard a Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope’s objectives include dedicated investigations in cosmology, including the effects of dark energy / dark matter and exoplanet exploration. This Japanese billionaire is also looking forward to his SpaceX lunar trip.

The telescope was previously known as the Wide Field InfraRed Survey Telescope (WFIRST), but it was later renamed in honor of Dr. Nancy Grace Roman for her extraordinary work at NASA, which paved the way for large space telescopes,” said the agency.
