NASA Perseverance Mars Rover Dust Devil Jezero Crater
NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover captured dust devils moving across the Jezero crater using its navigation cameras on July 20, 2021. The images it collected were then enhanced in order to show maximal detail, with some color distortion. What NASA ended up with is a short animation of the three images, each of which were taken about 15-seconds apart.

One of Perseverance’s key missions on Mars is astrobiology, which encompasses the search for signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will continue to characterize the planet’s geology and past climate to pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet hopefully within this decade. The Mars 2020 Perseverance marks the first mission to collect and cache Martian rock as well as regolith, while subsequent missions will collected the sealed samples for return to Earth. Could Elon Musk’s SpaceX help the first humans reach Mars? German scientist Wernher von Braun thought so back in 1952.

The Mars 2020 Perseverance mission is part of NASA’s Moon to Mars exploration approach, which includes Artemis missions to the Moon that will help prepare for human exploration of the Red Planet,” said the agency.
