Origami LUNARK Moon Habitat

Two talented designers, Aristotelis and Sorensen, from Denmark have unveiled LUNARK, an origami-inspired moon habitat that could one day be used by astronauts from NASA’s Artemis missions. This compact portable structure that can quickly and easily be expanded or folded, and the exterior boasts a strong aluminum frame covered with solar cells, while the interior features a toilet as well as living quarters, complete with study space for two. It weighs in at about 1,700kg and can expand from an easy to transport 2.8 cubic meters to an impressive 17 cubic meters. The designers aim to test the efficiency of LUNARK this fall by living inside it for three months in the Arctic regions of Greenland, where -30° Celsius temperatures are the norm and replicate the freezing conditions on the moon.
