Pininfarina JAS Motorsport Acura Honda NSX Restomod
A streamlined dream was created forty years ago, called the HP-X, when Honda teamed up with Pininfarina, resulting in one of the most renowned sports cars in history. Jump ahead to the present day, and the same crew has teamed up again, this time with JAS Motorsport from Italy. What’s their focus? The original Honda NSX, a 1990 marvel, with its rare combination of everyday practicality and supercar performance.

Shadows dance across the NSX’s classic shape in these early looks, while carbon fiber now molds the whole shell, replacing the original’s lightweight aluminum with something stiffer and more responsive to every bend. The front fenders swell outward, framing vents that purposefully pull air in, while larger intakes slice into the rear quarters to improve airflow. A hood vent pays homage to the track-honed NSX-R models of the past, while the rear diffuser spreads wide, gripping the road like an old friend rediscovered its stride. Proportions have also changed; the rear track has extended just enough to secure the car, eliminating the unsightly overhang from the 1990s design. LED daytime runners edge the front, and the rear light bar is current, but what about those pop-up headlights? They remain, flicking up in a distinctive wink from the original.

Every element in this build suggests that it is ready for the road rather than the racetrack. JAS emblems replace Honda’s, a savvy move that allows the project to stand on its own while adopting the NSX’s chassis and bones from early-1990s donors. For the time being, the interior is a mystery, but expect a cabin designed for long journeys – leather seats that hug without squeezing, gauges that light up crisply and clearly, and buttons that are easy to reach. It is available in both left- and right-hand drive, allowing drivers from all over the world to use experience this restomod.

JAS tuners boost a naturally aspirated V6, a direct descendent of the NSX family, to more than 270 horsepower. The particular figures behind this bump are, of course, kept under wraps, but sources speculate on a significant increase, more than enough to remind you why the NSX had such a strong run against Ferraris in its time. That extra oomph is funneled through a 6-speed manual (and only one), which requires precise shifting.

To create something like this, you need more than just memories; it takes decades of hard effort and dedication to achieve the level of workmanship required. Pininfarina created the looks that drew you in from every angle, lines that evolved with the 1984 HP-X showcar and into the NSX legend, and then JAS came along and added DNA from Honda’s TCR racing campaigns. Production begins next year in a run so tiny that it feels exclusive by default, made entirely at JAS’s workshop outside Milan.
