Resident Evil Code Veronica Unreal Engine 5 Fan Remake
A new video has just been released showcasing what it looks like when a gamer decides to rebuild pieces of Resident Evil Code Veronica, a 2000 Dreamcast classic, in Unreal Engine 5 from scratch. On April 11th, the creator, Yuri from Luli Studio, posted the brief concept demo. In it, Claire Redfield walks through a rain-soaked graveyard that feels real before entering the terrifying Ashford Mansion, where every element refers back to the original story.

The entire area is illuminated with a pretty interesting lumen lighting effect that provides natural shadows and soft glows that flow about as you watch her go through, and everything feels incredibly substantial and lifelike, not like those flat visuals from the Dreamcast. This was clearly a labor of passion, since Yuri built the entire thing from scratch in just two weekends, from nothing to a completely fleshed-out atmosphere.

What’s really cool is that the sequence feels like a cinematic cutscene from an actual game, rather than just a rendering. Claire opens doors, looks around, and reacts to the environment in a way that accurately portrays the game’s suspense. They also included some classic voice lines from the original that longtime fans would recognize.

The audio and images blend together seamlessly without seeming like they belong in different games. Everything remains faithful to the survival horror theme, with peaceful moments quickly becoming ugly. Yuri has previously stated that he is working on a follow-up piece to improve the character movements and make the dormitories more explorable so that people can dive into the puzzle sections next.

This project is entirely non-profit and serves just as a technical demonstration for the time being. There is no link to Capcom, and the disclaimer makes it plain. People were blown away by how quickly the whole thing came together, and when they saw it for the first time on the day it released, their jaws just dropped.
