It’s official, the SEGA Mega Drive Mini 2 console launches October 27th in Japan, priced at approximately $76 USD. Unlike its predecessor, the second-generation mini console boasts a Mega CD / SEGA CD add-on ($37) that comes bundled with a Sonic the Hedgehog CD disc. Some of the titles include: Virtua Racing, Bonanza Bros, Thunder Force IV, Magical Taruuto, and Fantasy Zone.
The first SEGA Mega Drive / Gensis Mini was released worldwide back in 2019 and included 42 titles, which varied depending on the region. This second-generation model boasts a combined 50 Mega Drive and Mega CD tiles, with the latter including Silpheed, Shining Force CD, as well as Popful Mail. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on a US release. For those who may have a broken SEGA Genesis console laying around, you could turn it into a functional synthesizer.

I think for the next one, we may go with a concept close to the Mega Drive Mini. If I have to say some names, it could be an SG-1000 Mini or a Dreamcast Mini,” said Yosuke Okunari, creative producer for SEGA.
