File this under: strange Coca-Cola varieties. People in Asia and New Zealand can now buy self-freezing Coca-Cola direct from vending machines. This is made possible through supercooling. In other words, these machines cool each bottle until they’re a few degrees below freezing point – the bottle provides constant pressure, which prevents the liquid from expanding and ice from forming – and when the bottle is opened, closed, and then turned upside down, everything starts freezing instantly. The Coca-Cola company also briefly marketed special vending machines containing Sprite in the UK, and Coke in Singapore, which stored the bottles in a supercooled state so that they would turn to slush upon opening.
