Set for release on August 11, Sony Pictures Entertainment has just released the first Gran Turismo movie trailer. The cast includes David Harbour (Jack Salter), Archie Madekwe (Jann Madenborough), Orlando Bloom (Danny Moore), Djimon Hounsou (Steve Mardenborough), and Geri Halliwell (Lesley Mardenborough).
The film is directed by Neil Blomkamp and follows a Gran Turismo player whose skills won a series of Nissan-sponsored gaming competitions at the GT Academy, paving the way to becoming a real-life professional race car driver. Development for this film began back in 2013, but the Joseph Kosinski directed version was scrapped in 2015. In May 2022, Blomkamp was hired to direct and filming began in Hungary shortly after, wrapping in December 2022. Capturing all of the vehicles was no easy task, as it relied on the Rialto extention/detachment system of Sony Venice 2 cameras in order to place sensors in hard to reach locations and away from the main camera body.
