Chay Denne, better known as President Chay, purchased a 1999 Subaru Sambar with 44,610 miles on the odometer off FB Marketplace, and then proceeded to turn it into a surprisingly cozy camper van. Power comes from a Subaru EN engine making 57 hp, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The build started by completely gutting the van, and then putting a floor into it. Installing a floor was somewhat tricky, as the engine is located in the rear. So, the duo had to create a frame around the engine before adding insulation to dampen the sound. Next, they went on to building the wall on the passenger side, whereas the right contained the kitchenette with cabinets. In the end, the completed van also includes a lounge area and even a shower.

Why not leave the stock battery in place and use a DC/DC Charger to power up the house batteries when you drive? That way the starting battery never gets drained but the stuff in the camper. Just watched the end, it really needs an awning,” said one commenter.
