The factory Subaru BRZ isn’t designed to be a track car, but the automaker’s new BRZ GT300 most certainly is. No specifications have been revealed, but some are speculating that it will use a highly modified 2.4L flat-4, paired with a sequential transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. How much power is yet to be seen, though the 2022 Subaru BRZ’s 2.4L flat-4 generates 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Auto enthusiasts are very familiar with Ken Block’s annual Gymkhana extravaganza, but this year, Subaru of American partnered with rallycross star Travis Pastrana to make it a reality. All the stunts you’re about to see were filmed in Pastrana’s hometown of Annapolis, Maryland and stars an 862-horsepower one-off WRX STI built by Subaru exclusively for the film. You’ll see plenty of the usual power slides, tire destruction, and even bigger jumps.
The 2022 Subaru BRZ is official, with a focus on simplicity and fun. This refreshed model is powered by 2.4-liter horizontally opposed engine generating 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, mated to either a standard six-speed manual or six-speed automatic with a new Sport mode designed for more aggressive driving. Exterior wise, the vehicle is just over an inch longer and almost half an inch lower than its predecessor, resulting in a more aggressive wide frontal area set off by large functional air intakes.
