Yes, it’s true that Tesla is building a special factory for its Tesla Semi, an all-electric Class 8 truck. The factory is going up near Giga Nevada in Sparks, Nevada, right next to Tesla’s current Gigafactory. This strategic spot uses the setup and resources Tesla already has for making batteries and vehicles.
The factory is set up to churn out lots of Tesla Semis, aiming to create enough to meet the demands of commercial fleets. It’s planned to start making them by the end of 2025, with the first high-volume versions being built around then. But full-on mass production is planned for 2026, with the factory able to make up to 50,000 Semi trucks a year once it’s fully going.

Companies like Frito-Lay are already using Tesla Semis and building more charging stations, like an 8-stall Megacharger setup in Bakersfield, California, to support their trucks. This means more trucks are hitting the road and charging stations are popping up. The Tesla Semi will go up against major truck companies like Volvo Trucks and newer ones like Harbinger, who are also making electric trucks.

Besides Nevada, there are hints that Tesla might build the Semi at other places later, like Giga Berlin in Germany, as Elon Musk mentioned in 2024. This could help Tesla keep up with demand around the world.
