Vattenfall Wind Turbine Tiny Home
Vattenfall partnered with design studio Superuse to transform one of their giant wind turbine nacelle into a solar-powered tiny home. Measuring 13 ft (4 m) wide, 32 ft (10 m) long, and 10 ft (3 m) high, the Vestas V80 2-MW nacelle comes from a turbine that stood in Austria for 20-years and made its public debut at Dutch Design Week earlier this month.

Superuse fitted the nacelle with electricity, plumbing, as well as insulation, and since the shell is made of glass fiber reinforced plastics, it’s also highly durable. There are four solar panels on the roof that generate 1,800-W peak power, just enough to power the water boiler (washing, showering etc.), a heat pump for air conditioning, a decentralized ventilation system that uses compact wall-mounted panels, and even an external EV charging point.

We are looking for innovative ways in which you can reuse materials from used turbines as completely as possible. So making something new from them with as few modifications as possible. That saves raw materials, energy consumption and in this way we ensure that these materials are useful for many years after their first working life,” said Thomas Hjort, Director of Innovation at Vattenfall.
