According to News.com.au: “Thomasson began collecting almost immediately, but the path to the world record had a couple of restarts. He sold off his collection twice, first in 1989 to raise money for a Sega Genesis, then again to pay for his 1998 wedding. Since then, Thomasson has methodically rebuilt the collection, averaging two games per day on a strict budget of $US3000 a year, which means never paying full price. He estimates the collection is worth $US700,000-$US800,000.”
