Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic has officially opened Spaceport America, its future hub for space tourism. We get a first glimpse at its luxurious lounge area and amenities for future travelers. Ticket holders who have already paid $200,000 or more for a Virgin Galactic flight will soon be checking in at this spaceport before they board a supersonic plane for a 90-minute ride into Earth’s upper atmosphere. The first-floor offers a lounge area, complete with a coffee bar made of “back-lit Italian marble hovering above hand-crafted oak,” while modern couches line the floor-to-ceiling windows that offer panoramic views of the surrounding desert. Other facilities at the spaceport include a mission control center, pilot area, and a briefing center.
