L8STAR’s BM60 Mini has no problem running Android, but trying to run the operating system on a Sony CMD-Z5 flip phone from 2000 is an entirely different story. Why? It comes equipped with a grayscale 96×72 display, a mini-SIM slot, and a removable Li-ion 500mAh battery, which means running Android required replacing all of its internals.
A Gocomma W5 smartwatch was then gutted and had most of its hardware installed on the Sony CMD-Z5, complete with touchscreen display, Bluetooth, 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi, as well as a few other necessary features to run Android. Surprisingly enough, the smartwatch’s small display fit the Sony CMD-Z5’s case near perfectly. One caveat: most of the original buttons are no longer functional…except for the power switch.
