Xiaomi YU7 GT Nurburgring Record SUV
Ren Zhoucan lapped the Nordschleife at an amazing pace of 7 minutes 34.93 seconds in a Xiaomi YU7 GT. The time is almost two seconds faster than the earlier record held by the Audi RS Q8, which is no mean feat considering how fast the Audi went. Interestingly enough, the earlier record of 7 minutes 36.69 seconds has stood since 2024.

Zhoucan is Xiaomi’s preferred test driver when they want to show off their brand-new electric cars, so he definitely pushed the YU7 GT to its limits while driving through the famous 12.9-mile track. Once equipped with the Track Pack, the vehicle featured Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, massive 21-inch rims clad in Michelin high-performance tires, reprogrammed suspension software, and recalibrated active ride control and traction control. According to sources, the car managed to hit a top speed of 186 miles per hour on the Döttinger Höhe straightaway.

In order for the vehicle to beat the record, the engineers had to add a complete roll cage and remove the rear seating as well for maximum weight savings. However, the vehicle is still considered to be a production SUV according to the regulations for the record attempt. With all this in mind, how does this vehicle move? The answer lies in the dual motor configuration that provides a whopping 990 horsepower. Speaking about range, the vehicle has a 101.7 kilowatt-hour battery pack with a 800-volt architecture capable of traveling up to 438 miles and charging 10% to 80% in roughly 12 minutes.

The feat became what Zhoucan later called a “proud milestone,” made possible only after a number of months of preparation and tests. The feat proves that the YU7 GT is able to conquer difficult racing tracks, while still being a useful and user-friendly SUV. Saleswise, the model hit the Chinese market on May 21, just a few days after setting the record.
