Open a photo in Google Photos today, tap edit and select “Help me edit”. From there, type or say a simple request and Nano Banana will do the rest. This model built by Google DeepMind is now live on both Android and iOS in the US.
You don’t have to drag sliders or navigate through options. Tell it what needs to be fixed—remove sunglasses from one person, open closed eyes on another, add a smile—and the software will do it. Nano Banana uses faces from your library to keep everyone looking like themselves even after multiple edits.

Take a group photo of someone blinking. Type “open my eyes and make Riley smile” and the model will use other images of those faces to produce natural results. Same with removing glasses or changing facial expressions. Results appear in seconds, with the ability to undo or refine them further.
Beyond fixes, Nano Banana can do full transformations. Ask to restyle a portrait as a Renaissance painting, turn a snapshot into a mosaic of colorful tiles or convert it into a children’s storybook page. The model knows what’s in the photo and applies the new look to the entire image while preserving the details.
Android users will see a Create tab with pre-made templates powered by the same system. Tap one, such as “place me in a high-fashion photoshoot” or “make a professional headshot,” and the app will build the version immediately. More personal alternatives will be available shortly, pulling from your gallery to suggest adjustments related to your interests, such as a cartoon of you with your dog or a doodle inspired by your trips.
When you view any photo, you’ll see a new Ask button. Tap it to start a conversation: ask what’s in the image, look for similar instances, or describe more adjustments. Changes appear right quickly, on top of the original file. All of these tools run on device wherever possible for speed and privacy, and only use faces from your own library. Watermarks are used to indicate that the edits were created using AI.
Most features begin rolling out today, with iOS receiving the conversational edits and new UI first in the United States. Ask Photos grows into over 100 countries and 17 languages at the same time. Nano Banana originated in the Gemini app, where millions of people utilized it to make wacky creations.
