Finally, Toyota is bringing its high performance hatchbacks to North America, and this one will surely sell out. The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla packs a 1.6L G16E-GTS turbocharged, direct/port injected three-cylinder engine producing 300 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission that sends power to all wheels via a GR-Four All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) drivetrain. It will be available in Core (late 2022) and Circuit Edition (early 2023) models, with the latter being limited-run in white, Supersonic Red or Heavy Metal with the same GR-Four stamped side rockers as well as wide fenders as the Core. However, the Circuit Edition adds a forged carbon fiber roof, vented bulge hood, rear spoiler, Brin Naub suede-trimmed sport seats with red accents and a launch-year-exclusive Morizo signed shift knob. The interior on both models feature a GR leather-trimmed tilt/telescopic sport steering wheel with audio, Multi-Information Display, and Bluetooth hands-free phone / voice-command controls. Optional packages include a Performance (front + rear Torsen Limited Slip Differentials), Technology (Premium Audio with Dynamic Navigation and JBL w/Clari-Fi + Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging), and Cold Weather (heated front seats and heated steering wheel). Pricing has not yet been announced, but considering the GR Yaris is priced from around $40,000 USD, expect this model to start around there.

All GR Corolla grades come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0), which includes enhancements made possible by system sensors with improved detection capability. The Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection is also capable of detecting motorcyclists and guardrails in certain conditions. When making a turn or approaching an intersection, the system is designed to detect forward or laterally approaching oncoming vehicles and provides audio/visual alerts and automatic braking in certain conditions,” said the company.
