The Porsche 911 GT2 RS has always been the wild, untamed beast of the 911 family, taking the already ferocious 911 Turbo and cranking it past the limit with track-ready ferocity. Now, whispers and sneaky spy shots confirm the 992.2-generation GT2 RS is roaring into existence, poised to be the most unapologetic 911 ever. Caught tearing up Germany’s Nürburgring and nearby roads, this prototype is a wider, mightier, and—here’s the kicker—electrified monster that’s got auto enthusiasts buzzing.



This prototype’s standout trait is its jaw-dropping width. Compared to the already beefy 911 GT3 RS, the GT2 RS is an absolute unit. Its front fenders, while styled like the GT3 RS, stretch way out, and the rear arches sport riveted extensions that scream a wider stance. Right now, the wheels look a bit puny in those massive fenders, hinting that Porsche’s testing with a narrower setup. But when this beast hits the streets, expect forged rims that hug those arches tight, ready to claw the road with unrelenting grip.

Next-Generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS Prototype Hybrid
The bodywork is a blend of GT3 RS and 911 Turbo DNA. Air scoops on the rear quarter-panels, a signature of the Turbo, are present, and the exhaust setup mirrors the Turbo’s corner-mounted tailpipes (the centrally positioned pipes on the prototype are reportedly dummies). The aero package is expected to be extreme, with a massive fixed rear wing—potentially larger than the GT3 RS’s swan-neck design—designed to generate unprecedented downforce. While the prototype retains many GT3 RS body panels, Porsche has promised a distinctive look that sets the GT2 RS apart from its siblings.

The GT2 RS’s powertrain is where things get truly wild. Unlike the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six of the GT3 RS, the GT2 RS will rely on a twin-turbocharged flat-six, likely a bored-out version of the 3.8-liter unit from the previous GT2 RS. But the real game-changer is the hybrid system. Drawing inspiration from Porsche’s Le Mans-winning 919 Hybrid and the 963 LMDh racer, the GT2 RS will employ mild-hybrid technology—not a plug-in hybrid like the Cayenne or Panamera, but a lightweight system designed to boost performance.

Reports suggest the electrified powertrain will produce over 700 horsepower, with some sources, like Autocar, claiming figures as high as 750 hp or even 800 hp. That’s a significant leap over the 691 hp of the 991.2 GT2 RS and nearly 200 hp more than the GT3 RS’s 518 hp. The electric motor, possibly integrated into the transmission, could add up to 184 lb-ft of torque, complementing the flat-six’s estimated 550 lb-ft. This hybrid setup prioritizes rear-wheel drive, maintaining the GT2 RS’s purist credentials while delivering instantaneous electric torque to sharpen acceleration.

The GT2 RS won’t come cheap. A leaked screenshot from a German dealer, posted on Mobile[.]de, suggested a price of €450,000 (approximately $504,000), a significant jump from the 991.2 GT2 RS’s $294,450 MSRP in 2019. This aligns with the car’s advanced tech and limited production run. Porsche is expected to unveil the GT2 RS in 2026, with sales likely starting in 2027.
