Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple is purportedly testing E Ink’s Electronic Paper Display (EPD), which consists of an electrically-charged surface that replicates the look as well as experience of ink on paper. These displays are extremely thin and only require power when a new image is requested, making it perfect for a future iPad or iPhone model.
This rumor would fall in line with the 9-inch foldable device that Apple has been working on for the past year, which would make it larger than the iPhone, yet smaller than an iPad. How would the display work compared to a normal OLED panel? Well, in an electronic display, the encapsulated “ink” is printed onto a sheet of plastic film that is then laminated to a layer of circuitry. The latter forms a pattern of pixels that can be controlled by a display driver. Now we’re just waiting for Apple to release a foldable drone.

Apple is testing E Ink’s Electronic Paper Display (EPD) for future foldable device’s cover screen & tablet-like applications. The color EPD has the potential to become a mainstream solution for foldable devices’ must-have cover/second screen thanks to its excellent power-saving,” said Ming-Chi Kuo.
