Oppo Smartwatch with a Foldable Display Offers Plenty of Space for Apps

The Apple Watch may be king of smartwatches, but rest assured, there will be others that try and take that crown. One possible competitor could be Oppo, a Chinese consumer electronics and mobile communications company headquartered in Dongguan, Guangdong. They recently filed a patent with the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) titled ‘Wearable electronic device’ and it was published in September 2018.

In the patent drawings, you can see a smartwatch equipped with a regular strap while sporting a rectangular shaped screen. Either at the push of a button or a simple hand movement, the screen folds out to reveal a larger one, with plenty of space for extra apps. When not in use, you can simply turn the extension off, and fold it back into the watch to save power.

For added durability, the screen itself has a bracket that can also slide out when the foldable display is extended. This same bracket can also be used to lock the extension in place when it’s folded back into the smartwatch.
