There’s the $500K C SEED HLR 201 foldable TV, and then this custom-built foldable iPhone made by an Apple fan from China. The goal was to retain as many of the iPhone’s original parts as possible besides the hinge. A Samsung Galaxy Z Flip hinge didn’t quite work out, so the team opted for one from a Motorola RAZR for its less noticeable crease.
They spent over 200-days re-engineering the iPhone since the foldable display required many of its internal hardware components to be shifted around, including the logic board, battery, the side buttons, as well as removing a speaker. Apple has yet to release a version of iOS designed for foldable devices, which means the team had to create their own custom software to get the apps working properly.
