Destiny Rising, the mobile spin-off from Bungie’s iconic sci-fi universe, developed by NetEase Games, is ready to begin its closed beta on May 29. New gameplay footage from this upcoming closed beta has fans itching to dive into this ambitious iOS and Android title. Far from a watered-down mobile clone, this is a full-blooded shooter aiming to honor Destiny’s legacy while forging a distinct identity.
The beta nails Destiny’s core vibe but fits it into bite-sized mobile bursts. Veterans will feel at home with the crisp gunplay and loot-chasing grind, but a clever twist lets you swap between first- and third-person views to flaunt your Guardian’s gear or zero in for precision shots. You’ll shred Fallen, Hive, and Vex with fluid shooting and ability combos, backed by controller support for Xbox, DualSense, DualShock 4, or Backbone, bringing console-grade accuracy to your phone.

Set in an alternate post-Dark Age timeline, Destiny: Rising dives into humanity’s gritty rebuild after the Collapse, with you as one of 11 unique Lightbearers like Ikora Rey or the customizable Wolf. Swapping out classic classes, each of the 11 Lightbearers boasts unique skills and supers through a Relic slot, giving it a hero-shooter edge. Beta players can’t stop raving about the high-octane action, especially Gauntlet Ops, a six-player co-op mode that packs raid-level intensity into your phone. Other modes like Haven Ops Strikes and the PvP-ready Shifting Gates (not in beta) keep things varied, while the Jiangshi Metro offers a vibrant open world to roam.
NetEase has loaded Destiny: Rising with content to keep players glued to their screens. The beta offers a spoiler-free prologue of the main campaign, three public events, and a social hub called Haven for gearing up and connecting with others. Leaked alpha files tease familiar NPCs like Eris Morn, Saladin, and the Drifter, alongside new characters.

The free-to-play model, with alpha leaks pointing to multiple currencies and subscription-like setups, may annoy Destiny diehards. In-game purchases aren’t active yet, but the framework hints at aggressive monetization. While no release date is confirmed, 2026 seems likely after the closed beta wraps up.
