Dexterous Robot Peel Banana Japan
Researchers at the University of Tokyo have developed a highly dexterous robot that is so precise that it’s capable of peeling a banana without destroying it. This robot consists of two arms, each equipped with two finger-like parts that gently rotate the banana and then peel back the top of the stem. Then it carefully manipulates the fruit so it can safely remove the rest of the skin without actually damaging the inside. Read more for a video and additional information.

How long does it take to peel in real-time? Around 3-minutes, and unfortunately, its success rate is 57% without any mushing, which means you can’t rely on this for a perfect peel, that is unless you’re making a banana dessert. The robot was trained using AI-powered machine learning algorithms to imitate a human demonstrator, thus can easily be improved upon.
