Drone Iceland Volcano Empty Crater No Lava
Iceland’s tourism industry has been hard hit these past few years, going from nearly 2 million tourists who landed at Keflavik International Airport in 2019 to just 478,000 in 2020. Fast forward to mid-March 2021 when the country to fully vaccinated tourists, around 13 times as many people traveled to Iceland, compared to the very low numbers recorded in May 2020. However, the eruption on Fagradalsfjall might have had something to do with that.

Apparently, this drone pilot flew over this crater between July 27-28 using his DJI Air S2 and discovered something bizarre when he zoomed into the vent. It was completely empty of magma, with just a few shining coals in the very bottom and on the crater rim. However, scientists did notice a gradual decrease in magma output through July, or just 6% of what it was back in May.
