Volkswagen unveils their new Scout Traveler SUV and Scout Terra Truck concepts, with boths EVs featuring a body-on-frame chassis, a solid rear axle, and front / rear mechanical lockers that provide enhanced capability as well as off-road performance.
The Scout Traveler is projected to have a towing capacity of over 7,000 pounds, while the Scout Terra can tow 10,000 pounds, both with nearly 2,000 pounds of payload. Dual electric motors deliver nearly 1,000 lb-ft of torque, enabling the duo to hit 60 mph in as little as 3.5 seconds. Base models are expected to offer up to 350 miles of range, while the extended range variants get more than 500 miles of range through a built-in, gas-powered generator. Traveler entry model starts as low as $50,000 USD with available incentives, with retail prices starting under $60,000. The Terra entry model begins at $51,500 with available incentives, with retail prices starting under $60,000. Initial production is slated for 2027.
