Explosive Piston Baseball Bat Home Run
Engineer Shane Wighton has created many sports-related machines in the past, but this one may be the coolest yet. Simply put, it’s a baseball bat equipped with an explosive piston that almost always guarantees a home run. However, this isn’t a project just anyone can try, as Wighton had to fabricate a custom bat from a slab of pine before fitting the steel piston mechanism on the end powered by .27-caliber blank bullets. Read more for a video and additional information.

When the bat makes contact with an incoming ball, either from someone throwing it or on a tee, the piston compresses, thus activating the blanks inside, which then explode and force it propel the ball. Now the key is to make contact, as even a light swing can launch a ball over the outfield wall. Wighton’s current home run record? How about 350-feet.
